Wingham Akoostik Festival: funding success!
It was a pleasure to write regular media releases for the Wingham Akoostik Festival throughout 2014. Following the October festival I was also asked to prepare a lengthy application for a Flagship Event Funding grant from Destination NSW, the government agency for NSW tourism, on behalf of the Wingham Akoostik Festival. It was extremely pleasing to hear recently that the festival had been successful in applying for this funding - which will be valuable as the committee plans for 2015.

Bio for local musician: Jake Davey
Local musician Jake Davey wanted a bio that he could use on his website and in PR material. What I loved about this job was that, being local, I got to sit down with Jake and his mum over a coffee and chat. My job is so much easier when I have the opportunity to get to know the people or organisations I'm working for, and understand what they stand for. You can see Jake's bio here: Jake Davey Music

Manning River Times, May 2012

A local Taree preschool wanted to raise its profile within the local community. The preschool is a non-profit organisation and does very little advertising. It faces the challenge of being located in a more 'difficult' area of town. The Director wanted to communicate to locals that the preschool is a unique, forward-thinking centre. I suggested turning a recent preschool 'theme' into a media release, which I wrote. The article was picked up by the local paper, and through this and other efforts enrolment numbers have grown significantly, and the preschool has opened an additional room to cater for the influx.

I offered to help local boy David Low with publicity for his fundraising walk, as I felt his story was an interesting one. I sent a media release to local newspapers, which picked up the story. A local TV station representative also saw the article and contacted David for a TV interview, which featured on the local evening news. David completed his walk and exceeded his fundraising target of $10,000.
