Partnering with Timothy Partnership

These guys are providers of online education who needed some help with their website. It was a nice looking website, but the content was a confusing jumble of course information leaving many visitors to the site with a bad case of information overload. I went through the site page by page, refining, re-writing and re-arranging, to help potential students make better sense out of the great courses on offer through The Timothy Partnership.

Regular client: Northpoint Apartments

I love writing articles for these guys because the research required allows me to discover all sorts of wonderful events and tourist attractions around my local area.  I also enjoy that I have freedom of choice as to the content of these articles: they trust me and are happy to go with whatever I decide to write about.

This client is one of many accommodation providers in a popular tourist area, so SEO is an important part of the process when putting together these articles. There are certain key words I use in every article to ensure this client continues to rank well within Google. Here's a link to the blog.

Regular client: Donovan Oates Hannaford

Yes, I know, it's been a bit quiet on this page. It's great to have regular clients like Donovan Oates Hannaford lawyers, but I figure I don't need to post every time I write my monthly article for them...

Writing for a law firm is a great learning experience. My job is to turn a suggested topic into an article that is free from jargon and appeals to the client's target audience - in this case small to medium local business owners and individuals. In the process I get to learn about areas of the law I wasn't aware of - which makes for great brain exercise! You can check out some of the past articles here.

Goal setting and copywriting: WaveTech Solutions

Copywriting involves a lot more than writing words. When I met with the director of WaveTech Solutions about writing the text for their new website, I asked the natural first question: "What is it you do?" The problem was, there wasn't a clear answer. Not because they don't do anything - but because they do so much. And because they could do so much more. How do you define a business that offers a large variety of services, and has the capacity to offer even more? And how do you bring all that together into a clear, easily navigated website? This project was about helping the client be clear on where they wanted the business to go - and then producing the words to help it go there. Another motivated small business on the mid north coast - now online. Visit the new WaveTech website here:   WaveTech Solutions website.

Psychology and copywriting: CSI Business Solutions

Writing the text for the CSI Business Solutions website was an enjoyable challenge. Often when I'm writing web material, the end product is the result of a long process of really delving into the identity of the organisation and its people - and is as much a psychological exercise as it is a writing one. Sometimes, the words can't come until the client is clear on who they are, what they stand for and how they want to be percieved. Even then, there's the challenge of matching the words with the visuals, which can be especially tricky when there's no direct contact between myself and the graphic designer. In this case, even the client wasn't dealing directly with the designer, but through a consultant - which is always a bit more of a challenge and can be a little more time-consuming. I REALLY enjoy the identity-mapping process - perhaps even as much as the writing process - and this website involved a great deal of both. I was also privileged to interview clients of this business for testimonials, which allowed me to 'see' this business from another angle. It's a fantastic little local business, the owner is a real inspiration, and it was really satisfying to play a role in helping them not just get online, but 'find themselves' along the way. You can visit their website here: CSI Business Solutions. The site was designed through DXN Solutions, another great little local business.

Bio for local musician: Jake Davey

Local musician Jake Davey wanted a bio that he could use on his website and in PR material. What I loved about this job was that, being local, I got to sit down with Jake and his mum over a coffee and chat. My job is so much easier when I have the opportunity to get to know the people or organisations I'm working for, and understand what they stand for. You can see Jake's bio here: Jake Davey Music

Website copy and flyers: The Resolution Network

While writing the text for The Resolution Network's new website, and two flyers,  I realised what a fantastic job mediators do... Tough job, great people.

Website copy: Joyer IT

I have done some joint projects with Joyer so it was a privilege to be asked to write the copy for their new website. You can check it out here: joyer.com.au/

Website copy: Donovan Oates Hannaford law firm

I write monthly articles for Donovan Oates Hannaford (see below) so it was great to be involved more broadly in producing the firm's website copy. The challenge was to create a feel of professionalism and expertise, while still showing personality and unique style. No mean feat when you're dealing with a law firm! Joyer IT did the design for this website, and I wrote the words. You can see the site here: DOH law new website

Website copy: Mid Coast Uni Portal

It was great to see representatives from NSW Universities and Mid North Coast TAFE working together on this valuable resource. The web text I wrote formed part of a total re-design of the website, with Joyer looking after the design side of things. Originally, it was a large, messy site full of chunks of information that had been cut and pasted from various sources. Now, it's easy to read and easy to navigate.... and is a great resource for the local community.Check out the new website here.

Website copy: Stay At Home Mum website, 2013

I wrote a guest article for this popular lifestyle website, on the topic of... ahem... grey pubic hair! I know, I know.. but I'll admit it was an amusing one to write. Click here to read the article

Website copy, Joyer design, Nov 2012

Client: Joyer Design
Brief: Joyer needed a copywriter to prepare copy for a website they were designing. I wrote copy for several web pages for Joyer's client, Coast South West Rocks, a new housing development on the mid-north coast of NSW.

Below is a sample of the copy I wrote. The website has not been made live as yet.

Less than six hours from Sydney, and within commuting-distance to several large, mid-north coast towns, South West Rocks is the idea coastal retreat. Combining the atmosphere of a seaside village with all the mod cons, it’s a perfect location for those wanting an active, family-oriented lifestyle or the peace and quiet of an ocean-side retirement.

The Coast development is situated in an attractive, convenient location adjacent to the South West Rocks golf course and just 1.5km from the beach. Shops and local amenities are only minutes away.

South West Rocks

The town itself boasts a growing primary school with a great reputation, and is an expanding area for both young families and older retirees. Health amenities include five medical centres, three pharmacies, two dentists and an ambulance station, with plenty of additional options located in Kempsey, just a 20 minute drive away.

South West Rocks boasts a popular country club, which is a hub for local community activities. The South West Rocks Surf Club is renowned in the region, and regularly hosts NSW championship events.

The region

The large regional town of Kempsey is just a 20-minute drive away, and the city of Port Macquarie is an easy 60-minute drive. The area is set to benefit from a significant number of Government projects which are not only stimulating the economy but providing a major boost to infrastructure and resources in the area.

Projects which will benefit the area include:

  • Kempsey By-Pass: A $618 million project which will significantly reduce travel times between South West Rocks, Kempsey and Port Macquarie.
  • Pacific Highway Upgrade: With a $35 million government contribution, the upgrade of the highway will greatly reduce travel times between South West Rocks and Port Macquarie.
  • Kempsey Hospital: An $80 million upgrade project which will be completed by 2016.
  • Port Macquarie Hospital: A $110 million upgrade which will significantly expand the hospital, due to be completed in 2015.
  • Port Macquarie airport: A $5 million upgrade will see a larger runway allowing interstate jets to land in the area. There are already regular flights each day from Brisbane and Sydney.
